Speed and ease of use are key in a cinema

Location

Finnkino Itis is located in the heart of the Itis shopping centre in the Itäkeskus district of Helsinki. It is Finnkino's newest destination and a reference theatre that is visited all over the world. Finnkino is the largest cinema chain in Finland and part of Europe's largest cinema chain, Odeon Cinemas Group.

Challenges

The 9-screen cinema has an average of 1,000 people a day using the toilets. From Friday to Sunday and during holidays, the number of visitors can reach 2 000 per day. Finding an ecological solution for washing and drying hands for such a large number of people is essential for sustainability. Although the shows are staggered, with such a large number of people to serve, queues can easily form in the toilets. Finnkino wanted a solution that would speed up toilet visits and avoid people queuing.

Solution

Dyson Airblade Wash+Dry hand dryers were chosen for Finnkino Itis during the design phase, as the cinema chain has good experience with Dyson equipment in several other Finnkino cinemas. The selection was based on the hand dryers' ease of use, cost-effectiveness and maintenance-free operation.

"We had screens. The first Dyson hand dryers arrived at Finnkino Tennis Palace in 2015, and we haven't had to repair them," says Project Manager Riekkinen from Finnkino.

Hygienic and convenient

It takes 12 seconds to dry your hands and you don't have to touch anything with your fingers. There are hardly any splashes and the pool area is easy to keep clean. The air that dries your hands is clean. The dryer's certified HEPA filters filter out 99.95% of particles such as bacteria and viruses.

Savings

The solution has saved euros by reducing the need for cleaning and checking toilets. "And when you compare the number of times the dehumidifiers are used with the amount of hand towels and cloth towels, the savings are huge," says Riekkinen.

An ecological alternative

The ecological footprint was also a factor in the choice. The Dyson Airblade Wash+Dry is more ecological than traditional taps with paper or cloth towels or air dryers. The water volume is also automated.
