Dyson Airblade Wash+Dry Hand Dryers - Oodi

A hygienic and stylish solution for the urban living room at Oodi

"The Oodi Central Library receives up to 10 000 visitors a day. It is important that the hand washing and drying facilities in the toilets for such a large crowd are hygienic and quick to use. In addition, the solution is ecological and the facilities are kept clean as wet paper does not drift across the floors."

The site

The Oodi Central Library, located in Helsinki's parade ground opposite the Parliament Building, has become a popular meeting place for citizens. An architecturally stunning work of art, it was voted the world's best new public library in 2019. Innovation and sustainability are reflected in Oodi's choice of equipment and materials.

Challenge

Every architectural and interior design detail at the Oodi has been considered down to the last drawing. The same applies to the sanitary facilities.

The high number of visitors to the library poses a major challenge to the functionality and cleanliness of the sanitary facilities. In its first full year of operation in 2019, the library had 3.1 million visitors. Normal daily attendance is between 9 000 and 10 000 visitors.

Solution

The Oodi wanted high-quality hand washing and drying equipment that was suitable for stylish spaces, but also practical, hygienic and environmentally friendly. The Dyson Airblade Wash+Dry met the requirements. The choice of Oodi's design architect was a decisive factor in the decision.

Clean and fast

The Dyson Airblade Wash+Dry keeps sanitary facilities clean even when the toilets are crowded. The hand dryer is located on the wings of the tap, so hand washing and drying can be done from the same footprint. This speeds up toilet visits. In addition, there are hardly any water splashes, which reduces the need for cleaning.

Hygienic

The tap and hand dryer work without touching. In addition, Dyson hand dryers meet stringent hygiene requirements and only blow out ultra-clean, filtered air thanks to certified HEPA filters.

A solution for large and small spaces

The largest toilet room in the library is located on the lowest floor of the Oodi. Smaller sanitary facilities can be found on the upper floors. Typically, hand dryers are suitable for spaces of many sizes. The high quality materials used in Dyson dryers promise a long life even under heavy use.
